JON DAVIS

PITCHING INSTRUCTOR
STRENGTH & PERFORMANCE COACH, CSCS
FORMER PROFESSIONAL PITCHER
Bio
Jon Davis, together with Chris Ott, founded Powerhouse Training in 2010. Davis, a former professional pitcher, made a name for himself as being on the cutting edge when it comes to developing training programs and methods for producing dramatically stronger, faster and more explosive athletes. Davis was on the forefront of the development and implementation of over-underload training for athletes, a method he began using in 2000. Davis had an article published in 2006 on overload-underload training that went on to become one of the top searched and referenced articles relating to implementation of overload-underload training into baseball and softball. The method is referenced and used by numerous professional coaches and has resulted in countless products being developed based on the info in order to produce faster throwing speeds and bat speeds. In 2015 alone Davis had 10 local athletes break the 90 mph throwing mark after using the unique training method/program. Jon also has the distinction of training 8 different high school players from the Western Massachusetts area who went on to sign professional baseball contracts by the time their high school/collegiate careers ended.
Jon’s creative programming and training methods have helped produce over 100 All-Western Massachusetts high school All-stars, 13 All-Americans at the High School and Collegiate levels, and 3 Western Massachusetts Player of the Year (football, baseball, girls lacrosse). He has helped train/develop over 120 athletes who went on to play collegiate athletics, with many of those athletes earning scholarships to top of the line D1 schools. In 2014 and 2015 Davis helped produce back to back top 10 round MLB draft picks (position players) out of the high school ranks for the first time in WMASS history (Isan Diaz and Seamus Curran). Both players continue to train regularly at Powerhouse.
Davis graduated magna cum laude from Springfield College in 2006 with a degree in Applied Exercise Science. He has been CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) since 2007. Jon is a strong believer in practicing what he preaches. He feels strongly that a coach should be able to demonstrate and represent what they teach to their athletes. Previously Jon served as the MA state chairman for 100% raw powerlifting. The federation is a drug-free equipment-free federation.
PLAYING BACKGROUND
As a player, Jon starred at Cathedral HS in Springfield where he accumulated 25 wins and 310 strikeouts while leading his team to 3 straight WMASS div 1 finals appearances, 2 WMASS championships, and 1 state finals appearance, while garnering player of the year honors in 2002. Davis went on to play his college ball under Mark Simeone at Springfield College, earning 2nd team All-New Mac conference during 05 and 06 while producing a 1.93 ERA as a senior with opponents hitting only .157 against him. Jon also played 2 summers in the prestigious NECBL where he was one of the league’s top closers in 2005, producing a 1.00 ERA with 7 saves. He defied the odds as a 5’9” RHP by earning a professional baseball contract as the only player to sign out of the 2007 tryout sponsored by the New Haven Cutters and Pro Dreams. The tryout consisted of well over 100 players from all over the country. His low 90’s fastball at 5’9” and 170 lbs was a product of the unique training methods that he now teaches to his athletes.
In addition to playing professional baseball, Jon has assisted in the training and development of:
High School All-Americans
