Jon Davis
Owner / Pitching Instructor / Strength & Performance Coach
CSCS
Jon Davis, together with Chris Ott, founded Powerhouse Training in 2010. Davis, a former professional pitcher, made a name for himself as being on the cutting edge when it comes to developing training programs and methods for producing dramatically stronger, faster and more explosive athletes.
Davis was on the forefront of the development and implementation of overload-underload training for athletes, a method he began using in 2000. His 2006 article on overload-underload training went on to become one of the top searched and referenced articles relating to the implementation of overload-underload training in baseball and softball. The method is referenced and used by numerous professional coaches and has resulted in countless products being developed based on the info in order to produce faster throwing speeds and bat speeds.
In 2015 alone, Davis had 10 local athletes break the 90 mph throwing mark using the unique training method. Jon also has the distinction of training 8 different high school players from Western Massachusetts who went on to sign professional baseball contracts by the time their high school and collegiate careers ended.
Jon's creative programming and training methods have helped produce 100+ All-Western Massachusetts high school All-Stars, 15 All-Americans at the high school and collegiate levels, and 3 Western Massachusetts Players of the Year (football, baseball, girls lacrosse). He has helped train and develop 120+ athletes who went on to play collegiate athletics, with many earning scholarships to top D1 schools. In 2014 and 2015, Davis helped produce back-to-back top-10 round MLB draft picks out of the high school ranks for the first time in Western Mass history (Isan Diaz, Seamus Curran). Both players continue to train regularly at Powerhouse.
Davis graduated magna cum laude from Springfield College in 2006 with a degree in Applied Exercise Science. He has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) since 2007. Jon is a strong believer in practicing what he preaches and feels strongly that a coach should be able to demonstrate and represent what they teach. He previously served as the Massachusetts state chairman for 100% Raw Powerlifting, a drug-free, equipment-free federation.
Playing background: Jon starred at Cathedral HS in Springfield, where he accumulated 25 wins and 310 strikeouts while leading his team to 3 straight WMass Div 1 finals appearances, 2 WMass championships, and 1 state finals appearance, earning Player of the Year honors in 2002. He went on to play under Mark Simeone at Springfield College, earning 2nd Team All-NEWMAC Conference in 2005 and 2006 and producing a 1.93 ERA as a senior with opponents hitting .157 against him. Jon also played 2 summers in the NECBL, where he was one of the league's top closers in 2005 (1.00 ERA, 7 saves). He defied the odds as a 5'9" RHP by earning a professional baseball contract — the only player to sign out of the 2007 tryout sponsored by the New Haven Cutters and Pro Dreams, which featured well over 100 players from around the country. His low-90s fastball at 5'9" and 170 lbs was a product of the unique training methods he now teaches.

Brian Johnson
Pitching Instructor / Bulldogs 15-18U Pitching Coordinator
Driveline
Brian joined Powerhouse Training after graduating from Springfield College. He previously served as the pitching coach at Western New England University and gave baseball lessons at Diamondkings Baseball & Softball Academy.
As a player, Brian was a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference pitcher and posted a career 3.12 ERA over 4 years while striking out 167 batters in 164.2 innings (career K/9 of 9.13). He improved each year of his career to become one of the best pitchers in the conference and the New England region. He is the only student-athlete in Springfield College's D3 baseball history to throw multiple no-hitters in a career — once his sophomore year and again his senior year.
Brian experienced major improvements in the summer going into his senior year, when he utilized a new strength and conditioning program combined with a weighted-ball program. With hard work and consistency, he increased his max velocity from 87 to 94 mph. The new velocity attracted MLB scouts; he threw for half a dozen scouts before graduating, and went on to post a 2.73 ERA in 52.2 innings with 61 strikeouts.
Brian also played in multiple prestigious summer collegiate baseball leagues. In the summer of his sophomore year, he played in the NECBL for the Danbury Westerners — a league that has sent nearly 150 alumni to the major leagues and had nearly 100 alumni drafted in each of the last 10 MLB drafts. Brian later pitched for the Pittsfield Suns of the FCBL in the summer going into his senior year, posting a 2.83 ERA in 41.1 innings with 38 strikeouts.
Brian is now turning his hard work and dedication toward helping others reach their full potential. Along with being a college pitching coach, he is Driveline Coaching Certified and is excited to incorporate weighted-ball work to help others unlock their velocity.
